The 65th Regiment in New Zealand

The 65th Regiment, served in New Zealand from 1846 to 1865.

The re-enactment photographed here is based on the 1860s period, when the regiment saw active service against the Maori in the Taranaki and Waikato wars.

During this time their red coats and shakos were left in storage, and blue serge uniforms worn on campaign.

The 65th took part in storming several large Maori pa in the Waikato War, but for the most part fighting was undertaken by small detachments skirmishing in the forests and scrub.
